How to Transfer Outlook Express Folders to Outlook

Wednesday, July 20, 2011

Outlook Express is a basic desktop email client that was available for PC computers running the Windows XP operating system. If you install the full Microsoft Outlook application on a computer with Outlook Express, you can transfer data between the two programs. Both Outlook Express and Microsoft Outlook support email folders for storing and organizing your messages. When transferring Outlook Express data to Microsoft Outlook, you can specify exactly which folders you want to move.

Instructions

Open the Outlook Express application but make sure Microsoft Outlook is not running.

Go to "File" in the top menubar, expand the "Export" submenu and select "Messages."

Hit "OK" when the dialog box asks you if you want to continue exporting data to Microsoft Outlook.

Click on the radio button next to "Selected Folders." A list of the folders in your Outlook Express mailbox will be displayed in the lower-half of the window.

Highlight the mail folders you want to transfer to Microsoft Outlook by clicking on the name of each one.

Press the "OK" button to export the selected folders from Outlook Express and import them into your Microsoft Outlook profile.
